Heart of Midlothian Football Club was founded in 1874, making it one of the oldest football clubs in Scotland. The club was formed by a group of young men from the Heart of Midlothian area of Edinburgh. They initially played friendly matches before joining the Scottish Football Association in 1879.
The club enjoyed its golden era in the early 1900s, winning the Scottish League title in 1895, 1901, 1906, and 1911. The 1950s also saw a resurgence, culminating in a Scottish Cup win in 1956. This period solidified Hearts as a dominant force in Scottish football.
Heart of Midlothian has produced many legendary players, including John Robertson, who is the club's all-time leading scorer. Other notable figures include Gary Locke and Craig Gordon, both of whom have made significant contributions to the club's history.
