Heart of Midlothian have completed the signing of Swiss teenager Leart Kabashi from Grasshopper Club Zurich. The 18-year-old midfielder has signed a four-year contract at Tynecastle Park.

Heart of Midlothian, who sit third in the Scottish Premiership with nine points from four games, have added a highly regarded young talent to their squad. The club's strong start to the season, featuring three wins and a loss, provides an immediate platform for the new arrival. Kabashi could be in line for a dramatic debut in tonight's Edinburgh derby clash against Hibernian.

Leart Kabashi is an 18-year-old central midfielder who broke through at Grasshopper Club Zurich. He made his senior debut in February last year and scored his first goal in just his second appearance for the Swiss side. Since that debut, he has made six first-team appearances in total. Described as a fast player on the ball with good technique and an eye for goal, Kabashi is comfortable in the middle of the park but carries an attacking edge to his game.

The player himself outlined his attributes. "A fast player on the ball with good technique and good finishes and a team player," Kabashi said. He also emphasized his mentality, adding, "I love to fight for the team, give my all for the team and have a big mentality."

Kabashi cited several factors behind his move to Edinburgh. He mentioned the tradition of Heart of Midlothian, the passion of the fans, and the appeal of the city itself. The club's familiar stature in European football also played a part in his decision. His arrival comes as Heart of Midlothian look to maintain their positive early-season form, having scored 10 goals while conceding just four so far.

The current squad depth can be viewed on the club's official squad page, which will soon be updated to include the new signing.

The young midfielder joins a Heart of Midlothian side that is performing well but also managing several absences. Key players currently sidelined include Ageu, Craig Halkett, Malachi Fagan-Walcott, Tom Renaud, and Stephen Kingsley. This context means Kabashi could find opportunities to contribute sooner rather than later, especially in a midfield that values energy and technical ability.

His profile as a team-oriented player with a knack for arriving in the box could offer manager Steven Naismith a different option in the engine room. The team's recent form of three consecutive wins before a loss shows a group in need of consistent contributions from across the roster.

The most immediate question is whether Kabashi will feature against Hibernian. A debut in one of Scottish football's most intense fixtures would be a major first test. Beyond that, the four-year deal signals a long-term project for both player and club. Heart of Midlothian are firmly in the early title conversation, sitting just three points behind leaders Celtic, and every addition is scrutinized for its potential impact on that chase.

Fans can track the team's progress in the standings as the season develops. Leart Kabashi is now contracted to Heart of Midlothian until the summer of 2030.
