Pitt Returns After 17 Years
Brad Pitt will attend the 74th San Sebastián Film Festival, running from 18 to 26 September 2026, to present his new film Heart of the Beast. The actor last appeared at the festival in 2009, when he presented Inglourious Basterds alongside director Quentin Tarantino in the Perlak section.
About Heart of the Beast
Heart of the Beast is an adventure survival thriller written by Cameron Alexander. The film is directed by David Ayer, who previously collaborated with Pitt on Fury (2014). Pitt stars as James Belmont, a retired Army Special Forces officer who survives a plane crash with his former military working dog, Odin. The pair become trapped in the Alaskan wilderness and must fight to stay alive and find their way back to civilisation.
The cast also includes J.K. Simmons and Anna Lambe. Production credits list Pitt, Olivia Hamilton, Marty Bowen, and Ayer as producers, with Damien Chazelle among the executive producers. The film will open in cinemas on 25 September.
Festival Details
The 74th edition of the San Sebastián Film Festival will feature 17 films in competition, three out-of-competition screenings, and five special screenings. Heart of the Beast will be shown out of competition in the Official Selection. The event is organised by the festival’s board, which announced Pitt’s participation on Monday.
David Ayer, born in Illinois in 1968, began his career as a screenwriter before moving into directing. His filmography includes U-571, Training Day, End of Watch, Suicide Squad, The Beekeeper, and A Working Man.
The film will open in cinemas on 25 September.
