Heart of Midlothian' mental fragility is a cause for concern, as evident in the team's recent performances. The late collapse at Pittodrie was largely due to the players' fatigue, whether physical, mental, or both. This was sore to take, especially in the opening game of the season. The team has lost a lot of leadership amid the summer upheaval, and this was evident in the last 15 minutes at Pittodrie. Had this been last season, we'd have been able to turn to guys like Beni Baningime or Frankie Kent to come off the bench, shore things up, and help us grind out the result. However, there seems to be a mental fragility in this team, as demonstrated in nine minutes in Graz when we conceded three goals. Our new head coach, Wouter Vrancken, needs to address this issue in the transfer window. We need to prioritize getting defenders in over signing a striker to take up the vacant number nine jersey, as we simply need to stop conceding goals. If we can get defensive stability for Thursday's tie in Lisbon against European giants Benfica, that should breathe some confidence back into Gorgie, where the wind has been knocked out of our sails ever since 16 May at Celtic Park. League standing (final 2025 table -- new season not yet under way): 1st in Premiership, 70 pts, 21W-7D-5L from 33 games, recent form LWDWW. Goals this season: 58 scored, 28 conceded (+30 goal difference). Lead at the top: 1 point clear of Rangers.
